Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00 am--The annual Sisterhood Torah Fund Luncheon will feature keynote speaker Hanna Perlstein Marcus, author of Sidonia's Thread and Surviving Remnant. The cost to attend is a minimum of $36, which includes an $18 donation to the Torah Fund. The funds raised at this event are designated to support the extensive educational programs of Conservative Judaism worldwide, including 5 yeshivahs which educate our future rabbis, cantors, and educators in Judaic studies.
Hanna Perlstein Marcus was born at the Bergen Belsen displaced persons camp after World War II and later immigrated to Springfield, Massachusetts with her mother. Her first book, Sidonia's Thread, has been read around the world and was the winner of the 2014 Best Kindle Book Award for nonfiction, and was nominated for the Sophie Brody Medal of the American Library Association and the Sarton Memoir Prize. Her new book, Surviving Remnant, describes her upbringing in a community of Holocaust survivors in Springfield's North End and her hapless search for a father figure among them.
